Job summary

Lockton Companies is seeking an experienced compliance attorney to support ERISA and ACA health and welfare benefits compliance across the national consulting practice and the Northeast region. You will advise client service teams, draft guidance, and participate in client meetings to identify needs and craft proactive strategies.

The role emphasizes practical, plain‑language explanations, collaboration with internal teams, and ongoing professional development in employee benefits law.

Qualifications

• Law degree with strong research and writing skills.
• Minimum 4 years of law firm experience specializing in employee health and welfare benefits, or 8 years of experience in the field generally, with a strong focus on compliance advice for ERISA and ACA.
• Service‑oriented attitude and ability to support clients and internal associates under demanding timelines.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, able to articulate complex benefits concepts in a practical manner.
• Strong project, time and organization management skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) or similar software.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, practical compliance and technical support on employee benefit‑related aspects of ERISA, the ACA, IRC and other relevant laws, communicating findings and recommendations clearly to non‑lawyers.
• Research and prepare or update articles for periodic Compliance Alerts, employer guides, internal training and briefing documents such as white papers and practice aids.
• Manage or share management of complex compliance assignments, operational reviews, plan compliance projects, government filings and routine compliance services.
• Prepare and present webcasts and live, in‑person presentations on ERISA‑related topics in a clear and practical manner.
• Build strong relationships with internal associates, external partners, and firm clients.
• Participate in developing creative, strategic, proactive, and technically correct guidance to clients, including special situations and day‑to‑day responsibilities.
• Actively participate in client and prospect meetings to gather information, establish needs, clarify expectations, develop strategies, and obtain feedback.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field to maintain technical and professional expertise.

Lockton Companies is looking to add a People Solutions compliance attorney to support both our national ERISA Compliance Consulting practice and our Northeast Series. The attorney provides employee health and welfare benefit compliance support to Lockton account service teams and their clients in several Lockton offices and throughout the Northeast states.
