Job summary

MyMichigan Health seeks an Emergency Department administrative professional to coordinate patient and chart activities, collect data, and ensure proper ER charges are entered into the system. The role supports efficient patient flow and accurate billing in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate will enter demographics, obtain Medicare/Medicaid signatures, and assist with transferring patients while maintaining confidentiality and Microsoft Windows competency as required by MyMichigan Health.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office practices, policies and procedures as normally acquired through experience working in the medical center or similar setting.
• Typing skills and basic personal computer knowledge needed to enter patient information.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear an understandable manner.
• Maintains confidentiality with all patient information and data obtained.
• Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually according to MIOSHA standards. Mandatory OSHA training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Responsibilities

• Greets and notifies nurse when patients arrive for treatment; collects data and obtains signatures for payer authorization.
• Orders tests from ancillary departments, labels specimens, and communicates orders by phone.
• Records information in ER logbook, arranges beds for admits and prepares transfer paperwork.
