Job summary

UMMC is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department on a PRN rotating weekends at the Main Campus in Jackson, Mississippi. The role focuses on greeting patients, verifying insurance, registering for services, collecting payments, and initiating the patient flow with compassion and efficiency.

You will maintain accurate records in the EMR, answer inquiries, and support revenue cycle processes while ensuring compliance with confidentiality standards and ED protocols.

Qualifications

• HS diploma/GED and 1 year of clinical admissions or patient scheduling experience.
• Familiarity with patient throughput workflows and payer regulations.
• Experience with revenue cycle healthcare systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication; confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in the ER with professionalism.
• Register patients, verify demographics, insurance, and financial information.
• Obtain patient signatures on forms; ensure compliance.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; update records.
• Collect co-pays/deductibles; explain financial assistance when needed.
• Coordinate with clinical/security teams to manage patient intake.
• Enter patient data into EMR and correct duplicates.
• Respond to inquiries with sensitivity.
• Stay informed on payer guidelines and ED protocols.
• Support process improvements and train new staff.
