Job summary

NEBCO, Inc. is seeking a field technician to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a fleet of forklifts and material-handling equipment across Lincoln and southeast Nebraska.

The role requires reading service manuals and schematics, strong troubleshooting, and the ability to manage multiple service needs. Responsibilities include safety inspections, maintenance logs, and coordinating with supervisors.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of field technician maintenance/repair experience.

Job description

NEBCO, Inc. is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated business that started in 1908 and today employees more than 1,100 employees at 50 locations across Nebraska. NEBCO supplies the construction industry with concrete-related building materials used to construct buildings, parking structures, homes, bridges and highways. NEBCO’s business interests also include road construction, traffic control, mining, real estate, construction surety bonding, a short line railroad, and two of Nebraska’s popular recreational facilities, Quarry Oaks Golf Club and the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Position Summary

Responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet of forklifts, telehandlers, Shuttle‑Lift equipment, JLG aerial lifts, and other related material‑handling equipment for various NEBCO facilities throughout Lincoln and southeast Nebraska.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs routing preventative maintenance on forklifts, telehandlers, Shuttle‑Lift equipment, JLG lifts, and other related equipment.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and drivetrain systems.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues in the field and at various company locations.
  • Inspects equipment for safety, proper operation, and overall condition.
  • Completes repairs and maintenance in a timely, safe, and professional manner.
  • Maintains accurate service records, inspection reports, maintenance and repair logs and other related documentation.
  • Communicates with supervisors, equipment operators, and location managers regarding equipment status and repair needs.
  • Maintains company‑provided tools, a service vehicle, parts inventory, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
  • Follows all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travels between various NEBCO locations in Lincoln and southeast Nebraska as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • Degree, diploma, or certification in a related technical program from an accredited institution; and
  • 1 year previous experience as a field technician and/or performing maintenance and repairs on related equipment; or
  • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the above.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance plan.
  • CDL license helpful but not required.
Other Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel/gas/propane‑powered systems.
  • Experience with JLG, Sky Trak, Gradall, Toyota, Hyster, Yale, CAT, Shuttle‑Lift or similar equipment brands.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and parts manuals.
  • Must provide and/or maintain required personal hand tools as applicable.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must have ability to prioritize work and manage multiple service needs for multiple pieces of equipment across several locations.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and service equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand work direction yet work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must be dependable, professional, and safety‑minded.
  • Must understand basic numbers and math.
  • Ability to apply common sense and implement sound troubleshooting skills to analyze, evaluate and diagnose a problem.
  • Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions.

Working Conditions

This is a physically demanding job that regularly requires the employee to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and effectively communicate.

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to hot and cold weather conditions. The noise level will vary while in the field or shop.

Must be flexible regarding the work assigned due to the schedule of our crews in the field.

This is a tobacco‑free campus and facility.
