Job Summary

Responsible for the daily repair, upkeep of plants, equipment and property of U-Mix and provide product/equipment transport when necessary. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the shop through maintenance, inspection and repair of the equipment and operating conditions of the facilities.
  • Inspects and diagnoses machine technical problems in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Works in a manufacturing setting that requires welding, torching, cutting, and fabrication on various items for the purpose of building and maintaining the equipment and operating conditions while ensuring safety.
  • Maintains shop, equipment, tools, vehicle, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items.
  • Request parts, equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  • Transports various items, such as tools, equipment, and supplies, to other plants, job sites, or affiliated companies & / or pick up product from affiliated companies, as needed, to ensure availability of materials required.
  • Operates sand and gravel equipment as required for the purpose of supporting completion of work activities. As needed, use a skid‑loader, forklift, and/or loader to work around the plant and dredge.
  • Responds to emergency situations as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Assists in performing preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Operates plant based on production schedules to assure appropriate sequence of operations.
  • Keeps plant facilities clean and safe for efficient operation and notifies appropriate personnel of any problems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
  • Three years of experience in metal fabrication and/or six months related mechanic experience; or
  • an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) is helpful but not required.
  • Must be able to be trained and obtain CDL, if needed and be insurable under the company insurance program.
Other Qualifications
  • Must be able to work a 45 hr shift per week.
  • Must have basic working skills and demonstrated ability in electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
  • Ability to operate hand tools.
  • Welding and cutting torch skills are preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small diesel motors and standard motor vehicles.
  • Previous aggregate processing and gravel pit experience would be very helpful.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Must have a good send of detail an work to maintain a clean and safe plant environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense and implement sound troubleshooting skills to analyze, evaluate and diagnose a problem.
  • Must have a good understanding of numbers and measurement.
  • Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions.
  • Must be able to operate with minimal supervision, be a trouble shooter and take initiative to investigate and resolve problems.
