Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Alpha Inc. is seeking a Purchasing Agent based in Hawaii to own procurement end-to-end for parts, equipment, and materials that keep our field operations running. You will verify part details, coordinate with mechanics and vendors, and pursue timely delivery to minimize downtime.
The role emphasizes proactive follow-up, supplier relationship management, and cost/value optimization across domestic and international sources. Hawai‘i driver’s license required.
The Opportunity
At Alpha Inc., purchasing isn’t about placing orders. It’s about keeping the operation moving.
When a machine is down, a crew is waiting, or a critical part is sitting on backorder somewhere across the country, we need someone who doesn’t simply send an email and wait.
We need someone who owns it.
Alpha Inc. is looking for a Purchasing Agent who is organized, relentless about follow-through, sharp on the details, and wired with a genuine sense of urgency. You’ll source and purchase the parts, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and specialty items that keep our equipment, maintenance, construction, and field operations running.
This is not a transactional purchasing role.
You’ll own purchasing requests from initial request through successful delivery—finding the right part, verifying the details, tracking the shipment, chasing the backorder, communicating the delay, finding Plan B when Plan A falls apart, and making sure the person who needs it actually gets it.
If your definition of follow-up is “I sent them an email,” this probably isn’t your role.
If you naturally think “What needs to happen next, who do I need to call, and how do I get this across the finish line?” — keep reading.
About Alpha Inc.
Founded and grown in Hawai?i, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned company supporting construction, drilling, energy, equipment, and infrastructure operations across the islands.
We take on demanding work, and that requires people who take ownership of their piece of the operation.
Our three core values shape how we work:
Leading with Heart – Support and foster a safe, productive, and respectful work environment for all team members.
Strength in Unity – Work together across equipment, maintenance, field leadership, project teams, vendors, and internal departments because operations win when the entire team wins.
Alpha Mentality – Take ownership. Act with urgency. Solve problems proactively. Communicate effectively. Follow through and execute.
For the Purchasing Agent, those aren’t words on a wall. They’re the job.
What You’ll Own
Own the Purchase — Start to Finish
Attack Downtime With Urgency
A backordered part isn't just a line on a spreadsheet.
It can mean equipment sitting instead of working.
You’ll work closely with the Equipment Superintendent, foremen, mechanics, and operations personnel to understand what’s critical, what’s coming next, and where delays could hurt maintenance schedules, safety, field productivity, or project operations.
Critical order stuck?
Call the vendor.
Call again. Find another distributor. Check the manufacturer. Explore another shipping method. Find another solution.
You’re expected to aggressively follow up on critical parts, emergency orders, backorders, and delayed shipments—and immediately escalation significant issues that could extend equipment downtime.
Communicate Before Someone Has to Ask
Great purchasing professionals don't make the operation hunt them down for answers.
You’ll maintain current information on open orders, estimated delivery dates, tracking numbers, partial shipments, backorders, substitutions, cancellations, and outstanding items.
When something changes, you communicate it.
Not tomorrow.
Not when someone asks.
When it matters.
Sometimes the obvious vendor won't have it.
That's where resourcefulness matters.
You’ll source heavy-equipment and heavy-duty truck parts, components, tools, materials, supplies, consumables, equipment, and specialty products from vendors throughout the United States and internationally.
When traditional channels don't work, you'll identify alternate manufacturers, dealers, distributors, vendors, shipping methods, and sourcing options.
“Nobody has it” isn't the end of the search. It's information you use to determine your next move.
Make Smart Purchasing Decisions
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who has already learned that great purchasing is equal parts technical knowledge, organization, communication, persistence, and judgment.
You should bring:
The A-Player Profile
Titles don't impress us nearly as much as behaviors.
The person who crushes this role is the person mechanics and operations leaders learn they can count on.
You take ownership. Once it's yours, nobody needs to remind you.
You create urgency. You know the difference between “important” and “this machine needs to be running.”
You're ridiculously organized. Ten open orders don't become ten mysteries.
You're resourceful. When the obvious answer doesn't work, you go find another one.
You communicate early. Bad news doesn't improve with age.
You sweat the details. One wrong digit in a part number can cost time, freight, money, and production.
You think beyond price. You understand the cheapest part in the wrong place three weeks from now isn't much of a bargain.
You close loops. Ordered isn't done. Shipped isn't done. Successfully delivered and accounted for is done.
That's Alpha Mentality.
Why Alpha?
At Alpha Inc., the Purchasing Agent has a direct line to operational performance.
The work you do helps mechanics complete repairs, equipment return to service, crews stay productive, and projects keep moving.
You'll work alongside people who understand the field, solve hard problems, and expect accountability from themselves and each other.
We're looking for someone who wants more than a purchasing inbox.
We want someone who wants ownership.
