The Opportunity

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Civil Estimator who knows how to find the opportunity, dissect the details, price the risk, and build a bid designed to win.

This isn’t a role for someone who simply plugs quantities into a spreadsheet and waits for bid day.

We’re looking for an estimator who understands heavy civil construction, knows how to read between the lines of plans and specifications, catches scope gaps before they become margin killers, and can turn a mountain of information into a precise, competitive proposal.

You’ll work across private- and public-sector opportunities, analyzing plans, specifications, soil reports, schedules, subcontractor coverage, production constraints, and risk. You’ll also help identify what’s coming next—because great estimators don’t just price the work in front of them; they help build the pipeline behind it.

If you know HeavyBid and HeavyJob, have several years of real construction-estimating experience, and take pride in submitting numbers you can defend when the pressure is on, we want to talk.

About Alpha Inc.

Alpha Inc. is a locally owned Hawai?i company delivering heavy civil construction, drilling, renewable energy, concrete, and infrastructure solutions across the islands.

Alpha’s Civil team performs work ranging from land clearing, mass excavation, and precision grading to underground water, sewer, storm drainage, electrical, and power infrastructure.

We invest in technology, equipment, training, and—most importantly—our people. We’re looking for people who want to raise the standard, not maintain it.

Everything we do comes back to three core values:

Leading with Heart – Bring humility, accountability, respect, and empathy to the way you work with clients, teammates, subcontractors, and partners.

Strength in Unity – Great bids aren’t built in silos. Communicate, collaborate, and bring the right people together to win.

Alpha Mentality – Bring grit, character, precision, and a growth mindset. Adapt, improve, and never compromise the standard.

For an Estimator, those values show up in the details.

What You’ll Own

Hunt the Right Work

  • You’ll help identify opportunities that make sense for Alpha—not just chase every project that hits the street.
  • Monitor government publications, industry sources, and the market for upcoming projects and developments. Proactively identify near- and long-term opportunities, cultivate relationships, and help expand Alpha’s client base and future pipeline.

Know the Documents Cold

  • Plans. Specifications. Soil reports. Addenda. Scope changes.
  • You’ll dig into the bid documents and understand what the project is actually asking for—not merely what’s obvious on page one.
  • Evaluate scope, cost, constructability, risk, and changes that could affect project requirements. Spot conflicts, missing information, exposure, and potential scope gaps before the bid goes out the door.

Build Numbers That Hold Up

  • Develop precise, comprehensive estimates for civil improvement projects in both the private and public sectors.
  • Coordinate and oversee quantity takeoffs while accounting for the realities that can make or break a job: access, phasing, production constraints, sequencing, resources, and schedule.
  • The goal isn’t just to produce the lowest number.
  • It’s to produce the right number—and know exactly why it’s right.

Lock Down the Scope

  • Identify and engage subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers to secure competitive pricing.
  • Alpha’s expectation is comprehensive coverage: obtain at least two quotes for each scope of work to strengthen pricing and minimize gaps before submission.
  • You’ll know what’s covered, what isn’t, where the risk sits, and what needs another look.

Turn the Estimate Into a Winning Bid

  • Prepare detailed estimates, develop project schedules, and create clear executive-level summaries for leadership review before submission.
  • You’ll help turn raw quantities, vendor pricing, production assumptions, risk, and strategy into a proposal Alpha can confidently put its name behind.

Build Relationships That Lead to the Next Job

  • You’ll develop lasting relationships with clients and industry partners that strengthen Alpha’s reputation, create intelligence around future work, and help position the company for the next opportunity.

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone with the technical horsepower to estimate complex civil work and the judgment to know when something in the bid doesn’t smell right.

The foundation:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on construction-estimating experience.
  • Experience with HeavyBid and HeavyJob is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction bid documents, applicable regulations, and codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and relevant estimating/software tools.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

But checking the technical boxes isn’t enough.

What an A Player Looks Like Here

  • You’re the estimator who asks one more question before assuming.
  • You don’t bury uncertainty inside a number—you surface it, investigate it, and price it intelligently.
  • You understand that a missed scope isn’t just an estimating problem. It becomes an operations problem, a margin problem, and eventually a client problem.
  • You can zoom from the big picture down to the smallest detail without losing sight of either.
  • You build relationships because information matters.
  • You collaborate with operations because a bid needs to buildable, not merely winnable.
  • You take ownership when the numbers are yours.
  • And when the deadline gets tight, you don’t lower the standard.

Why Alpha?

  • Because the work matters.
  • Alpha is building and supporting infrastructure throughout Hawai?i, and the company continues to invest in technologies and methods designed to improve safety, accuracy, efficiency, and quality.
  • For the right estimator, this is an opportunity to put your fingerprints on projects before the first bucket hits the ground—and help determine what Alpha builds next.
