Equipment Operator II

Starting Hourly Rate: $18.22

This position involves semi-skilled manual and skilled equipment operation work in golf course maintenance. Responsibilities include:

1. Watering greens and tees
2. Maintaining sand traps
3. Changing cups on greens and tee markers
4. Mowing turf with sophisticated golf maintenance equipment
5. Picking up debris, leaves, and broken tree limbs
6. Performing related work as required

Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and/or Assistant Greenskeeper. This position requires the usage of additional equipment not required in the level I position including loaders, aerators, and large mowing equipment.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and follow oral and written instructions without close supervision
• Skill in the use of hand and mechanical tools and equipment
• Experience in operating backhoes, loaders, and other heavy equipment
• Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Certification must be from an organization approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school, and some experience in grounds keeping or any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of the proper use and operation of equipment used in golf course maintenance
• Mechanical aptitude and past experience as a large equipment operator (such as large trucks, tractors, mowers, golf course equipment, etc.)

Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., domestic and wild animals, mechanical parts, vibration, etc.), extreme temperatures, and intense noise. Required to wear hearing protection and walk on uneven terrain.
