Summary of Duties: The Demolition Operator is responsible for executing safe and efficient demolition operations in accordance with established guidelines and safety procedures. This position involves the use of specialized equipment and techniques to dismantle and remove structures and/or materials to facilitate new construction or site redevelopment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operate heavy machinery and specialized equipment to perform controlled and precise demolition tasks.
  • Assess the demolition site, remove any hazards, and implement necessary safety measures to protect workers and the surrounding environment.
  • Review and understand demolition plans and blueprints to effectively execute the demolition process and adhere to project timelines.
  • Safely and systematically dismantle structures and/or remove materials, salvaging reusable, or recyclable items when applicable.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to demolition activities.
  • Organize and dispose of debris, ensuring proper waste management practices and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Work closely with other demolition team members, project managers, and contractors to coordinate efforts and maintain a productive and safe work environment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of demolition equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns during critical operations.
  • Address and troubleshoot any issues or unexpected challenges that arise during demolition activities, taking corrective actions promptly and efficiently.
  • Keep equipment clean and orderly.
  • Must be willing & able to work in a respirator if needed. Willingness to travel to this and other job sites as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4 -5 years heavy equipment operator experience required.
  • 2 - 3 years demolition experience.
  • A valid driver's license is required. CDL a plus.
  • U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident Alien status or Authorization to work in the U.S.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; climb ladders, and stairs; talk and hear. Employee will use tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and power tools. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have occasional exposure to work near fumes and odors; regularly exposed to indoor and/or outdoor temperature fluctuations caused by equipment and/or outside weather conditions in addition to humidity. Employee may experience vibration while working with power tools. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
