Job summary

The State of West Virginia is seeking a Transportation Worker 2 to perform skilled work in highway and related maintenance. Positions may focus on Auto Body, Bridge Maintenance, Building and Trade, Equipment Operator, Mechanic, or Traffic Control, with CDL requirements in several areas.

Apprenticeship opportunities and progression through a state program are described, with benefits attendant to permanent, full-time state employment.

Qualifications

• No formal education required for some areas.
• CDL required within six months for certain assignments (Equipment Operator, etc.).
• Two years of relevant paid experience in specified areas may be required or substituted by vocational training.

Responsibilities

• Drive dump, flatbed, or tandem-axle trucks.
• Operate highway maintenance equipment and attachments.
• Perform basic auto body repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and report defects.
• Follow safety protocols and traffic control standards.
