Progression through an apprenticeship is based on hours, proficiency, and CDL attainment; a valid CDL is required for Equipment Operator. Some positions may require certifications after employment and travel may be needed.

Qualifications

• A valid class A or class B CDL is required for Equipment Operator.
• Experience operating highway maintenance equipment and trucks is expected.
• Some positions may require certifications after employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, and other highway maintenance equipment.
• Build forms and finish concrete; repair culverts and bridge structures.
• Install signs and barricades; patch cement and bridge decks; seal joints and cracks.
• Travel may be required; maintain and inspect equipment; perform minor field repairs.
