General Responsibilities:

Terracon’s Construction Services include environmental remediation, fuel service station closure, and renewable energy construction (testing, installation, and maintenance). These services are performed by Terracon-employed equipment operators and support staff. Equipment Operators conduct site reconnaissance and ensure utility clearance requirements are met. Work may involve operating excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, graders, loaders, scrapers, compactors, earth-hauling equipment, and other mobile equipment. Competency will be demonstrated in each specific piece of equipment operated. Services are conducted in the field at Terracon or client project sites.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrate competency in operating at least one type of mobile equipment such as excavators, dozers, motor graders, skid steers, backhoes, wheel loaders, compactors, or water trucks.
2. Prepare daily field reports for current projects.
3. Maintain equipment operational integrity by performing pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections and completing daily equipment reports. Promptly address any repairs needed to ensure safe operation. Exercise stop work authority if equipment cannot be made safe.
4. Communicate regularly with project or site management to provide updates on work status.
5. Meet with utility companies to verify underground utility clearances and conduct inspections as required.
6. Participate in project meetings, including those with clients and subcontractors.
7. Identify hazards in the work environment and take corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
8. Follow all safety rules, guidelines, and standards. Participate in pre-task planning and report safety concerns to management.
9. Maintain quality standards across all projects.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 1 year of laborer experience.
3. Basic computer skills.
4. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
5. OSHA trenching and excavation training or ability to obtain after hire.
6. Knowledge of soil composition testing, trench safety, excavation safety, damage prevention, pipeline support during excavation, and backfill testing.
7. Completion of Terracon Mobile Equipment Operator Competency training after hire.
8. Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
9. Ability to obtain certifications such as Excavator, Bulldozer, Front End Loader, or Backhoe certifications.
10. This role involves extensive travel to client sites, project locations, and company offices, including overnight stays and extended trips. All travel expenses are covered by the company.

Preferred Certifications:

• For remediation projects, 40-Hour HAZWOPER certificate, TWIC, and DOT medical card are preferred.
