General Responsibilities:

Terracon’s Construction Services include environmental remediation, fuel service station closure, and renewable energy construction (testing, installation, and maintenance). These are carried out by Terracon-employed equipment operators and support staff. Equipment Operators perform site reconnaissance and ensure utility clearance requirements are met. Work may involve operating excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, graders, loaders, scrapers, compactors, earth-hauling equipment, and other mobile equipment. Competency will be demonstrated in each specific piece of equipment operated. Services are provided in the field on Terracon or client project sites.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate competency in operating at least one type of mobile equipment such as excavators, dozers, motor graders, skid steers, backhoes, wheel loaders, compactors, or water trucks.
• Prepare daily field reports for current projects.
• Maintain operational integrity of equipment through pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections, complete daily reports, and promptly address repairs to ensure safety. Exercise stop work authority if equipment is unsafe.
• Communicate regularly with project/site management regarding work status.
• Verify underground utility locations with utility companies and conduct inspections as required.
• Attend and participate in project, client, and subcontractor meetings.
• Identify hazards in the work environment and take corrective measures to eliminate them.
• Follow safety rules, participate in pre-task planning, and report safety concerns.
• Maintain quality standards across all projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of laborer experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• OSHA trenching and excavation training or ability to obtain after hire.
• Knowledge of soil testing, trench safety, excavation safety, damage prevention, pipeline support during excavation, and backfill testing.
• Completion of Terracon Mobile Equipment Operator Competency training after hire.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Ability to obtain certifications such as Excavator, Bulldozer, Front End Loader, or Backhoe certifications.
• Willingness to travel extensively to client sites, project locations, and company offices, with all travel expenses covered by the company.

Preferred Certifications:

• For remediation projects, 40-Hour HAZWOPER, TWIC, and DOT medical card are preferred.
