General Responsibilities: Terracon’s Construction Services include environmental remediation, fuel service station closure, and renewable energy construction (testing, installation, and maintenance). These projects are executed by Terracon-employed equipment operators and support staff. Equipment Operators perform site reconnaissance and verify utility clearance requirements. Work may involve operating excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, graders, loaders, scrapers, compactors, earth-hauling equipment, and other mobile machinery. Competency will be demonstrated in each specific piece of equipment. Services are performed in the field at Terracon or client project sites.

Job Description

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate competency in operating at least one type of mobile equipment such as excavator, dozer, motor grader, skid steer, backhoe, wheel loader, or compactor.
• Prepare daily field reports.
• Maintain equipment safety through pre-shift and post-shift inspections; report and facilitate repairs; exercise stop work authority if safety issues arise.
• Communicate regularly with project management regarding work status.
• Verify underground utility clearance with utility companies and conduct inspections as needed.
• Participate in project and safety meetings.
• Identify hazards and take corrective actions to ensure safety.
• Follow safety standards and participate in pre-task planning.
• Maintain quality standards across projects.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of laborer experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• OSHA trenching and excavation training or ability to obtain it after hire.
• Knowledge of soil testing, trench safety, excavation safety, damage prevention, and pipeline support during excavation.
• Completion of Terracon Mobile Equipment Operator Competency training after hire.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Ability to obtain certifications such as Excavator, Dozer, Front End Loader, or Backhoe operator licenses.
• Willingness to travel extensively to client sites and project locations, with all travel expenses covered by the company.

Preferred Certifications:

• For remediation projects, 40-hour HAZWOPER, TWIC, and DOT medical card are preferred.
