Equipment Operator (Excavator and/or Backhoe)

Overview

Terracon’s Construction Services include environmental remediation, fuel station closure, and renewable energy construction (testing, installation, maintenance). Equipment Operators perform site reconnaissance, confirm utility clearance, and operate various mobile equipment such as excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, graders, loaders, scrapers, and compactors. Work is conducted on-site at Terracon or client project locations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in operating at least one type of mobile equipment (e.g., Excavator, Dozer, Skid Steer, etc.).
• Prepare daily reports for ongoing projects.
• Perform safety inspections and ensure equipment is operational and safe to use; report and address issues promptly.
• Communicate regularly with management regarding work status.
• Coordinate with utility companies to verify underground utility clearance.
• Participate in project meetings with clients and subcontractors.
• Identify hazards and implement corrective measures to ensure safety.
• Adhere to safety standards and participate in pre-task planning.
• Maintain quality standards across all projects.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of laborer or related experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• OSHA trenching and excavation certification or ability to obtain it.
• Experience with soil testing, trench safety, damage prevention, and pipeline support during excavation.
• Completion of Terracon Mobile Equipment Operator Competency training post-hire.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean violation record.
• Ability to obtain specific equipment certifications (e.g., Excavator, Dozer, Loader).
• Willingness to travel extensively to various sites, with expenses covered by the company.

Preferred Certifications

• 40-Hour HAZWOPER, TWIC, and DOT medical card are preferred for remediation projects.
