Job summary

The City of Griffin is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to operate a wide range of heavy equipment for construction, maintenance, and street/stormwater/wastewater projects. Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, material handling, and strict safety adherence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 months of experience operating the stated equipment.
• Possession of a valid State of Georgia Class A commercial driver’s license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed.
• Possession of valid MUTCD Flagging Certification, or obtainment within one year of role for public works, stormwater, and water-wastewater positions.
• Possession of valid Soil and Erosion Certification Level 1A, or obtainment within one year of role for stormwater positions.
• Possession of Trench Excavation and Trenching Awareness Certification, or obtainment within one year of role for water-wastewater positions.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment including trucks, mowers, loaders, dozers, backhoes, and rollers.
• Performs pre-trip and daily inspections; reports maintenance needs and logs inspections.
• Performs maintenance tasks to keep equipment in good condition; greasing and replacing parts as needed.
• Loads and hauls gravel, debris, and other materials to and from job sites.
• Follows job site safety procedures and uses required protective equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of safety equipment and with training new drivers.
• May act as crew-leader or job supervisor as warranted.
• Drives various waste and stormwater related vehicles on assigned routes or sites.
