Job summary

As an Equipment Operator II, you will operate heavy equipment such as excavators, front‑end loaders, cranes, and industrial forklifts to safely load, unload, and transport bulk materials, including sulfur, gravel, gypsum, potash, and slag. You'll work in a fast‑paced terminal environment where safety, teamwork, and operational excellence are essential.

Responsibilities

What your day looks like as Equipment Operator:

  • Safely operate a variety of heavy maritime equipment, including cranes, excavators, front‑end loaders, and other machinery used in bulk cargo handling operations.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and report any maintenance needs to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Load, unload, and transfer bulk materials between vessels, trucks, and rail while maintaining efficiency and proper cargo handling procedures.
  • Work closely with terminal teams to support smooth cargo flow, maximize productivity, and minimize operational delays.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and terminal procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment usage, cargo movements, and operational activities.
  • Identify equipment issues and perform basic troubleshooting or minor repairs as needed.
  • Support the training and development of new operators by sharing knowledge of equipment operation and safety practices.
Qualifications

To succeed as Equipment Operator you must have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or training preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card required.
  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a maritime or bulk terminal environment.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to maritime operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be flexible to work day, nights and/or weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and on elevated platforms.
