Job summary

The City of El Segundo is seeking a full-time Equipment Mechanic I/II to maintain and repair City automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, non-powered equipment, and other hybrid and alternative powered equipment. This role supports both entry- and journey-level duties with a focus on hands-on repair and preventive maintenance.

Qualified candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience and a high school diploma or GED; a California driver’s license is required, with a Class B

Qualifications

• One year of experience in servicing, maintenance and repair of fuel and alternative fueled vehicles and equipment.
• Equivalent to graduation from high school or GED; specialized training desirable.

Responsibilities

• Services, maintains, and repairs on and off-road fueled vehicles and equipment.
• Coordinates with City departments and vendors to schedule service, repair and maintenance for vehicles/equipment.
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots routine problems in engines, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
• Determines extent of repairs and assists with field service calls as needed.
• Performs basic welding tasks for maintenance and repair.
• Tests drives vehicles to diagnose, verify work quality and safety.
• Keeps records of time, materials and parts used and work performed.
