Job summary

The City of El Segundo invites qualified applicants for a full-time Facilities Systems Mechanic to maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC and related building systems.

Under supervision, the role diagnoses issues, performs preventive maintenance, and collaborates with other City staff to ensure safe, reliable facility operations. A CA driver’s license is required, plus relevant trades certifications; lifting up to 75 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressive building and facility maintenance experience.
• Graduation from high school or GED with college coursework.
• California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Trade Electricity Journey level and/or Certification.
• HVAC Universal Journey level and/or Certification.
• EPA Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, repairs and maintains electrical distribution and HVAC systems in City buildings.
• Maintains plumbing systems including pumps, piping and fixtures.
• Repairs doors, locks, ceilings and furniture, and performs basic carpentry as needed.
• Oversees contractor work, reviews bids and prepares specifications for new equipment.
• Maintains records of materials, time spent and works with other staff to resolve issues.
