Job summary

CRST The Transportation Solution, Inc. is seeking an Equipment Manager to ensure trailers are properly positioned and available where needed, with a focus on reducing downtime and costs across the fleet.

This role requires coordinating with multiple departments to keep the trailer pool balanced and operational. The Equipment Manager will analyze utilization, oversee movements, and support growth by implementing efficient processes for an expanding equipment base, reporting regularly on fleet

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Assign trailers to contractors based on operational needs and geographic demand.
• Maintain trailer pools across CRST locations and markets.
• Monitor trailer utilization to reduce idle or underutilized equipment.
• Coordinate trailer movements to support operational needs and contractor demand.
• Work with Operations, Fleet Managers, and other departments to ensure trailers are available where and when needed.
• Monitor and manage trailer-related expenses to control costs.
• Maintain records of trailer locations, status, and expenses.
• Track trailer availability and downtime to minimize operational impact.
• Assist with decisions on trailer purchases, rentals, transfers, and disposition.
• Ensure equipment-related processes and documentation are followed consistently.
• Provide regular updates and reporting on trailer fleet status, costs, utilization, and concerns.
• Support fleet growth by developing efficient processes for managing an expanding equipment base.

CRST is growing rapidly, with approximately 800 trucks and 1,000 trailers across our fleet. The Equipment Manager plays a critical role in supporting our operation by ensuring our trailers are properly positioned, available where needed, and managed in a way that minimizes unnecessary costs and downtime.

How You’ll Work

• Location: Onsite-200 Republic Street Birmingham, AL 35214
• Hours: Monday to Friday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
• Compensation: This pay scale represents a good faith estimate of the salary wage range the company reasonably expects to pay upon hire for this position: $48,635-$63,236 per year. A final offer amount will depend on factors such as prior relevant experience, skills, and location.

Job Summary

The Equipment Manager will be expected to anticipate equipment needs, identify potential issues before they impact operations, and work collaboratively across departments to keep the trailer fleet positioned and utilized efficiently. Success in this role will directly impact our ability to support contractors, minimize equipment-related costs, and continue to grow the fleet effectively.

• Work closely with Operations, Fleet Managers, and other departments to ensure trailers are available where and when needed.
• Monitor and manage trailer-related expenses, identifying opportunities to control and reduce costs.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer locations, status, utilization, and associated expenses.
• Track trailer availability and downtime and work with the appropriate departments to minimize the operational impact of unavailable equipment.
• Assist with decisions regarding trailer purchases, rentals, transfers, and disposition.
• Ensure equipment-related processes and documentation are followed consistently.
• Provide regular updates and reporting on trailer fleet status, costs, utilization, and areas of concern.
• Support the continued growth of the fleet by developing efficient processes for managing an expanding equipment base.
