JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking applicants for an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer (EBRE) for our Columbia, MD branch operations. The EBRE operates within the Risk Consulting Department and is an integral part of the services provided to our commercial insurance policyholders. This position reports to the Mid-Atlantic Region Branch Manager and supports our Maryland and Washington DC territories.

The primary focus is to perform risk evaluations, assess exposures and controls, develop loss estimates, and communicate findings to business partners. Responsibilities include analyzing controls, likelihood and magnitude of loss, and insurability. The individual will conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections according to jurisdictional rules, identify hazardous conditions, apply relevant codes and standards, recommend corrective actions, and prepare reports. They will communicate these recommendations to customers and advise on their impact.

The role also involves claims investigations, including evaluating accidents, damage assessment, invoice review, and determining causes of loss. Additionally, the engineer will provide risk improvement services, identify high-loss exposures, investigate losses, and evaluate preventative maintenance programs. Written reports will support underwriters in risk assessment and premium setting.

This is a remote-based role with field travel required.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop risk improvement reports, recommendations, and assessment documentation.
2. Build and maintain relationships with underwriting and service teams, agents, claims, and clients.
3. Manage workload within the assigned territory.
4. Take ownership of the territory, prioritizing and scheduling work effectively.
5. Utilize technology resources efficiently.
6. Respond promptly and professionally to customer requests.
7. Deliver timely, quality service and products to internal and external customers.
