Job description

We are currently seeking applicants for an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer (EBRE) for our Columbia, MD branch operations. The EBRE operates within the Risk Consulting Department and provides value-added services for our commercial insurance policyholders. The position reports to the Mid-Atlantic Region Branch Manager and supports our Maryland and Washington DC territories.

The primary responsibilities include performing risk evaluations, assessing exposures and controls, developing loss estimates, and communicating findings to business partners. The role involves conducting boiler and pressure vessel inspections, identifying hazardous conditions, applying codes and standards, recommending corrective actions, and reporting. The engineer will also perform claims investigations, evaluate damages, verify damages, review invoices, and determine causes of loss. Additionally, providing risk improvement services, identifying exposures with high loss potential, investigating losses, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs are key tasks. Reports will evaluate machinery breakdown and business interruption exposures to aid underwriters in risk assessment and premium setting.

This is a remote-based role with field travel required.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop risk improvement reports, recommendations, and risk assessment documentation
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with underwriting and service teams, agents, claims, and clients
  • Manage workload within an assigned territory
  • Take ownership of the territory, prioritizing and scheduling work effectively
  • Utilize technology resources for efficiency
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer requests
  • Deliver timely, quality service and products to internal and external customers
