Chubb Ltd. is seeking an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer for their Columbia, MD branch. This remote-based role focuses on risk evaluations and control assessments, supporting commercial insurance policyholders with expertise in inspection and loss prevention. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and a background in engineering, along with effective communication abilities for client interactions.
We are currently seeking applicants for an Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer (EBRE) for our Columbia, MD branch operations. The EBRE professional operates within the Risk Consulting Department and is an integral part of the value-added services provided to our commercial insurance policyholders. The position reports to the Mid-Atlantic Region Branch Manager and directly supports our Maryland and Washington DC territories.
The primary focus of this role is to perform risk evaluations, assess exposures and controls, develop meaningful loss estimates, and communicate findings to business partners. Responsibilities include applying critical thinking to determine the adequacy of controls, the likelihood and magnitude of loss, and overall insurability. The individual will conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections according to jurisdictional rules by performing thorough examinations, identifying hazardous conditions, applying appropriate codes and standards, recommending corrective actions, and submitting reports. They will also communicate how these recommendations impact customers' businesses and advise on appropriate courses of action.
The Equipment Breakdown Risk Engineer will perform claims investigations, including evaluating the elements of the accident, extent of damage, damage verification, invoice review, and cause of loss. They will provide risk improvement services to customers, such as identifying exposures with significant loss potential, investigating losses, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs. Written reports will include assessments of machinery breakdown and business interruption exposures, aiding underwriters in risk evaluation and premium assignment.
This is a remote-based role with field travel required.
