Job summary

Western Alliance Bank is seeking an experienced EPMO Director to set the enterprise PMO vision and drive maturity across programs in CityScape, Phoenix.

You will lead a team of project managers, coordinate resources and external partners, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with standards.

The role requires senior leadership, deep banking know-how, and the ability to collaborate with executives to realize business value.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of related experience in Project Management or similar field.
• Bachelor's degree in related field; Masters or MBA preferred.
• Previous leadership experience.
• Expert knowledge of banking operations, including deposit operations and treasury management.
• Expert knowledge of regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
• Advanced experience with resource planning, capacity management, demand forecasting and resource assignments across a complex program and project portfolio.
• Experience with resource management technology in advanced project platforms, like Planview.
• Strong relationship management and collaboration with executives, stakeholders, and management.

What you'll do:

As a EPMO Director in the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) you'll set the EMPO vision and execute on continuous maturity improvement efforts As a EPMO Director in the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) you'll lead the bank's Project and Program Management talent and provide the people leadership, capacity and assignment discipline required to successfully execute enterprise priorities. You'll be responsible for attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining high-performing Project and Program Managers while building a strong talent pipeline and creating meaningful opportunities for career growth. In this role, you'll coordinate the efforts of team resources, third-party contractors and/or consultants and are accountable for the delivery of on-time, within-budget business critical projects. You'll also provide oversight of project delivery practices and ensure projects are executed consistently, efficiently, and in full compliance with project management standards. You'll monitor project health, resource risks, and delivery performance; support the timely resolution and escalation of issues; and collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders to improve execution outcomes and realize business value. Ensure stakeholder satisfaction through ensuring accountability of roles and responsibilities across and within projects, particularly by project sponsors and project managers, driving project execution excellence (including clear communication plans using standard reports, meetings, and tools), reviewing customer feedback, and participation in customer meetings where necessary.Recruit and lead the EPMO team, applying the principles necessary for the successful management of projects throughout the project life cycle across all projects; sets and controls standards and mentors project managers to improve delivery of projects on time and within budget, given scope and known risks. Identify and adjust key resources and providing the direction required for meeting project objectives. Track progress on all ongoing projects (issues, risks, schedule, changes, costs, and scope); provide up-dates to supervisors, executives and stakeholders as required. Manage project schedules and task details; utilize project management tools and reports appropriately.Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.Keep leadership informed of changes related to new and ongoing projects within the organization; resolve and/or escalation project issues in a timely fashion. Manage and balance team workload; ensure team members understand and accept their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities; ensure consistency of project execution to standards and achievement of project objectives. Develop project management capabilities of project team members in the EPMO through goal-setting with clear expectations, training, coaching, group and individual meetings and discussion.

What you'll need:

• Expert knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
• Expert knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
• Advanced experience with resource planning, capacity management, demand forecasting and resource assignments across a complex program and project portfolio.
• Demonstrated ability to assess talent, skills, capabilities, development needs and project requirements to make effective staffing and assignment decision, and experience utilizing resource management technology in advanced project platforms, like Planview.
• Expert relationship management skills.
• Expert ability to collaborate with executives, stakeholders, and management required.
• Expert analytical, leadership, collaborative, and communication skills.
• Expert experience in EPMO senior-level positions for larger financial institutions
• Expert knowledge of project and program management standards, methodologies, tools, controls, and delivery practices
• Expert experience building and leading high performing Program Management Offices with demonstrated large project/program deployment and implementation experience.
• Subject matter knowledge in Technology Project Management preferred including both Waterfall/Agile also preferred.
• Expert financial industry experience.
• Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
• Project Management Professional preferred.
• Process Excellence certification preferred.
• Change Management or Prosci certification preferred.
• May require up to 25% travel.
