Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a self-reliant Clinical Applications Analyst to support its EMR development team, delivering expedient service, impactful analysis, and high-quality project delivery across outpatient and inpatient services. You will contribute to daily IT operations, work with EMR teams, HSIR, academic and administrative IT, and clinical leadership.

Experience with EpicCare Ambulatory, Inpatient Orders, Clin-Doc, or Rehab is highly desirable; proficiency within 30 days

Qualifications

  • 3 years progressively responsible business systems and/or Information Technology project experience; involves requirements gathering, testing, training.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field; equivalent IT experience may be considered.
  • Experience or certification with Epic applications highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and interpret specifications to develop or revise software applications.
  • Coordinate testing of new or updated applications to ensure data integrity and quality.
  • Assist in creating user specifications and training for system users.
  • Develop procedures and policies to communicate information resources issues to management.
  • Support cross-functional IT initiatives across EMR teams and HSIR.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a self-reliant Clinical Applications Analyst to support our EMR development team—a group of seven highly skilled analysts—providing expedient service support, impactful analysis, and quality project delivery. This role is central to advancing healthcare technology solutions that support more than 50 outpatient clinics and several inpatient units, spanning diverse and complex service lines such as Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehab, Surgery, Outpatient Surgery Center, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and other departments as assigned.

What You'll Do

As a Clinical Applications Analyst, you will serve as a catalyst for innovation, guiding your team through high-impact projects that directly support clinical operations and patient care. You will contribute to daily I.T. operations, ensure optimal team performance, and participate in cross-functional initiatives with internal partners across EMR teams, Health System Information Resources (HSIR), academic and administrative IT, and clinical leadership. Experience in EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient Orders, EpicCare Inpatient Clin-Doc, or Epic Rehab is highly desirable. Certification or experience with any other Epic applications will also be considered. If not currently certified in a clinical application, the expectation is to obtain Epic proficiency in a clinical application within 30 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in business administration, computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Experience
    3 years progressively responsible business systems and/or Information Technology project experience, with exposure to systems or project development and testing, installation, and training. Applicants without the stated degree, but with significant additional Information Technology systems and project experience, may be considered.
JOB DUTIES
  • Collects and interprets specifications required to develop new, and revise existing, software applications.
  • Assists managers with development and implementation of operational plans for new and existing business applications, including preparation of user specifications.
  • Coordinates testing of new applications and changes to existing applications to ensure integrity and quality of data while providing and/or assisting in training of system users.
  • Compiles complete, concise, and comprehensive policies and operation procedures to assist in communicating Information Resources issues to applicable management staff.
  • Assists in development of new administrative procedures required, utilizing new functionality resulting from system changes.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business Information Resources strategies to improve operational processing and productivity.
  • Responsible for monitoring development of specifications and establishing priorities for accomplishing design and testing of various projects.
  • Reviews, develops, recommends, and implements activities related to assigned activity, program, or function.
  • Maintains and tracks accounts assigned to projects or programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
