Responsibilities

  • Wash, rinse, sanitize, dry, and put away dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Keep sinks, counters, tables, and other kitchen work areas clean and sanitary.
  • Clean cooking equipment and other kitchen items as required.
  • Assist with general kitchen cleanup before, during, and after meal preparation.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors as required.
  • Empty garbage and recycling and keep disposal areas clean.
  • Ensure cleaned dishes and equipment are properly stored.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Use cleaning products and equipment safely.
  • Help prevent cross-contamination by following proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
  • Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or shortages of cleaning supplies to the Kitchen Supervisor or Coordinator.
  • Assist the kitchen staff with other reasonable duties when required.
  • Maintain a respectful and positive attitude when working with staff and Meals on Wheels volunteers.

Position Summary

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary dishes, kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and kitchen areas during the preparation of Meals on Wheels meals. The Dishwasher supports the cook and kitchen helper by ensuring the kitchen has clean equipment and utensils available throughout the meal preparation process.
