Job Summary

This position reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS). The GCCS consists of a series of extraction points known as wells, interconnected via piping. The collected gas is transported using gas conveyance equipment such as fans or blowers. Landfill gas (LFG) collected by this system from the landfill's wellfield is combusted within a flare. Proper operation of the GCCS is essential to comply with State and Federal environmental regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The individual must be able to work independently without direct supervision. Responsibilities include:

  • Properly operate and maintain GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain electronic data collection devices.
  • Collect and manage data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations.
  • Implement preventative maintenance plans.
  • Operate and maintain liquid management system pumps, troubleshoot, and determine liquid levels.
  • Perform wellfield valve/vacuum adjustments, data collection, and maintenance.
  • Use PVC or HDPE piping materials for maintenance tasks.
  • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I Training.
  • Develop understanding of environmental regulations related to GCCS operations.
  • Follow health and safety procedures.
  • Be available for on-call responses to GCCS malfunctions.
Qualifications
  • Education: Not required.
  • Experience: No prior experience necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
Work Environment

Work involves outdoor exposure (approximately 80% of the time), handling objects up to 60 pounds, walking over rough terrain, and wearing personal protective equipment. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
