Job summary

The Florida Department of Health in Polk County is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to manage the Stationary Tanks Inspection Program within the Environmental Health Division. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physical or natural sciences or engineering, plus two years of professional experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health.
• Knowledge of construction, operation, inspection or maintenance of mechanical systems.
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and annual 8-hour recertification required by DEP contract.
• Valid Florida Class E Driver's License.
• Ability to work independently and with the general public.
• Knowledge of environmental field work and standard written English.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Stationary Tanks Inspection Program under the Environmental Health Division.
• Perform compliance inspections of regulated storage tank systems.
• Track violations and follow up on enforcement actions.
• Conduct installation and closure inspections.
• Ensure facilities comply with state environmental codes.
