Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Polk County is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to perform field inspections and enforce environmental health standards. The role focuses on Mobile Home Park, RV Park, and Recreational Camp programs, with most work conducted in the field.

The incumbent must be well-organized, communicate effectively, and work independently. Responsibilities include inspections, records management, complaint investigations, plan reviews, and occasional interpreter duties.

Qualifications

• Public health or related field experience
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs
• Bachelor's degree preferred in physical/natural sciences or public health; or four years in related work as substitute

Responsibilities

• Inspect mobile home parks, RV parks, and recreational camps for compliance with codes and regulations.
• Perform inspections and re-inspections per EH Manual 150-4.
• Maintain accurate records of permits and inspections in the EHD database.
• Investigate complaints and prepare reports for enforcement actions when needed.
• Review plans for mobile home parks and assists in changes to park layouts and spaces.
• Contribute to other program areas and perform interpreter duties as required.
