Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Environmental Studies Business Line Lead to drive strategic growth, financial performance, and market Positioning across national markets. You will partner with the TSL to ensure technical excellence in NEPA, permitting strategy, and project development while guiding major pursuits and innovative offerings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering, construction management or related field; 17 years applicable experience.
  • Experience in environmental consulting, planning, permitting, or infrastructure development with business development and leadership success preferred.
  • Prior experience on construction project sites or executing program management in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, transmission & distribution, or water preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment; overtime on short notice.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with owners, contractors, engineers, designers in multi-disciplinary teams to resolve design or drawing issues.
  • Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic growth and long-term success of the Environmental Studies Business Line.
  • Monitor performance across NEPA documentation, environmental planning, siting and routing, environmental impact analysis, and project development support.
  • Develop annual business plans and improve delivery efficiency via digital and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies for multiple markets including transmission, power, renewables, water and transportation.
  • Position Environmental Studies as Burns & McDonnell's premier environmental planning practice.
  • Lead major pursuits and capture planning efforts.
  • Champion commercialization and market adoption of innovative Environment al Studies services.
  • Forecast workforce demand and secure resources to achieve growth objectives.
  • Identify future business capabilities and staffing needs; support succession planning.
  • Monitor national utilization and capacity; balance workloads across regions.
  • Align teams around common objectives; provide strategic direction on offerings and investments.
  • Partner with Technical Service Leaders to ensure delivery practices meet client expectations.
  • Build strategic client relationships and advise on environmental planning and permitting strategy.
  • Mentor future leaders and foster innovation through new services and digital solutions.
