Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Environmental Studies Business Line Lead to drive strategic growth, financial performance, and market positioning of the Environmental Studies practice. The role partners with the Technical Service Leader to align environmental planning, NEPA compliance, siting and routing, permitting strategy, and project development with national growth objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, construction management or related degree from accredited program with 17 years applicable experience.
  • Experience in environmental consulting, planning, permitting, or infrastructure development with demonstrated business development and leadership success preferred.
  • Prior experience on construction project sites or executing program management in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, transmission & distribution, or water industries preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and work overtime on short notice.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with owners, contractors, engineers, designers in a multi-disciplined project team to resolve issues and accomplish objectives.
  • Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic growth and financial performance of the Environmental Studies Business Line.
  • Partner with TSL to align environmental planning, NEPA compliance, siting and routing with national growth objectives.
  • Develop annual business plans and improve delivery efficiency with digital and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Lead major pursuits and capture planning efforts and commercialize new offerings.
  • Forecast workforce demand and secure resources to achieve growth objectives.
  • Balance national utilization with regional workloads and optimize resource use.
  • Provide strategic direction on service offerings, investments, and market opportunities.
  • Build strategic client relationships and act as trusted advisor on environmental planning and permitting strategies.
  • Mentor future leaders and foster a culture of innovation and market differentiation.
