Job summary

North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking an Environmental Technician II (S) to assist with stewardship and management of conservation properties and easements. The role requires regular in-state travel, occasional overnight travel, and arduous field work.

Responsibilities include field evaluations with GPS, assisting with hazard fuel reductions, prescribed fire, invasive species treatments, and site inspections.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in environmental or natural resource sciences and two years of related experience.
• Willingness to perform field work including travel (in-state travel required).
• Knowledge of GPS and mapping tools to document sites and concerns.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field evaluations of sites using GPS and smartphones to document concerns and remedial actions.
• Assist with property management tasks including hazard fuel reductions, prescribed fire, and invasive species treatments.
• Perform site inspections and refresh conservation boundary markings.
• Provide technical support including database queries, geospatial mapping, and file management.
