Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks an Environmental Specialist II (NS) within the Stewardship Program. You will manage landowner communications, conduct easement inspections, review monitoring reports, and coordinate with stakeholders across assigned regions.

Regular travel and field activities are required. The role supports protecting water quality, wildlife habitat, and open space through conservation properties and easements, with a hybrid telework option

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform conservation boundary inspections and refresh boundary markings.
• Perform quality assurance investigations of contractor-reported findings.
• Interact with DEQ staff to determine actions for resolving easement trespass and damage cases.
• Communicate with landowners regarding inspections and follow-up.
• Coordinate and provide safety trainings.
• Maintain geospatial data and conservation site records.
