Job summary

State of North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality seeks an Environmental Specialist II (NS) to act as a regional point of contact. You will help customers understand DEQ processes, permits, and requirements, coordinating with multiple programs and supporting express permitting options.

Travel up to 10% may be required; a valid driver's license is necessary. This position is part of the Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service, located within the DEQ framework in

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental/related field.
• Two years of related experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with identifying applicable permits and regulatory interpretations.
• Coordinate pre-application and multi-agency meetings and track timelines.
• Represent DEQ in meetings with economic development professionals and site selections.
• Develop fact sheets, guidance documents, and presentations related to DEQ permitting.
• Educate the public on DEQ services and solicit feedback from stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor's degree in environmental/agricultural/engineering/natural resource sciences or closely related field
