Job summary

State of Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Specialist III to manage the Overboard Discharge (OBD) Compliance Inspection Program from Augusta, ME. You will oversee inspections, coordinate enforcement actions, and provide regulatory guidance to license holders and contract operators.

The role requires leading seasonal staff, maintaining program records, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure licenses are followed and systems are properly

Qualifications

• Six-year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering including two years of environmental experience.
• Prefer experience/design/operations of overboard discharge systems or wastewater treatment.
• Ability to manage a statewide inspection program and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and manage the annual overboard discharge (OBD) compliance inspection program including on-site and offshore inspections.
• Direct, train, and oversee seasonal Conservation Aides for the OBD inspection program.
• Monitor OBD compliance and prepare enforcement actions and data reports.
• Provide technical assistance to OBD permit holders and contract operators on system operation and maintenance.
