Job summary
State of Maine seeks an Environmental Specialist II in Augusta to perform stormwater compliance inspections for the Central Maine region. You will inspect, audit, and document industrial, commercial, and municipal discharges and coordinate closely with DWQM staff and external agencies.
The role requires a Bachelor’s in environmental science or equivalent, knowledge of water quality laws, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 15 credit hours of science or engineering, or a four-year combination of education and experience in environmental science or related area.
- Knowledge of water quality laws and regulations; understanding of stormwater best management practices.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively in writing and speech.
Responsibilities
- Conduct compliance inspections and audits for industrial, commercial, and municipal discharges in the Central Maine region.
- Review NOI, NEC, and NOT forms, and SWMPs/SWPPPs, and provide comments as needed.
- Enter data into state databases and coordinate with DWQM staff and other agencies.
- Interact with compliance inspectors, enforcement staff, regulated community, and other stakeholders.
