Job summary

State of Maine seeks an Environmental Specialist II in Portland to inspect stormwater compliance, review NOI/NEC/NOT forms, and assess SWMPs and SWPPPs. The role requires a science/engineering background and strong communication skills, with field work across the Southern Maine region.

You'll interact with other inspectors, agencies, and stakeholders while handling data entry and reporting. Portland-based, permanent full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with 15 science/engineering credits OR a 4-year combination of education and experience in environmental science or related area.
• Knowledge of water quality laws and stormwater best management practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to work independently or as a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compliance inspections and audits for industrial, commercial, and municipal discharges in the Southern Maine region.
• Review NOI, NEC, NOT forms and SWMPs/SWPPPs and provide comments.
• Enter data into DEP databases and coordinate with enforcement staff and regulatory agencies.
