Job summary

The Department of Environmental Protection in Augusta, ME is seeking an Environmental Specialist II to perform stormwater compliance inspections and audits. The role involves fieldwork across the Central Maine region, handling NOI/NEC/NOT reviews and SWMP/SWPPP assessments, and data entry into state databases.

Qualified candidates have a bachelor’s degree with science/engineering credits or equivalent environmental experience, with knowledge of water quality laws and stormwater practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 15 science or engineering credit hours, or a four-year combination of education and experience in environmental science or related area.
• Knowledge of water quality laws and regulations is preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compliance inspections and audits for discharges in the Central Maine region.
• Review NOI/NEC/NOT forms and SWMPs and SWPPPs for compliance.
• Enter data into Department databases accurately.
• Collaborate with other inspectors, enforcement staff, and regulatory bodies.
