Job summary

North Carolina State Government is seeking a temporary inspector to perform gas pipeline and erosion control site inspections in the WSRO, supporting multiple DEMLR programs. You will report findings to internal and media inquiries and ensure compliance across programs.

Minimum education is a bachelor's degree in related sciences with two years of experience; knowledge of erosion/sediment control laws and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or closely related field and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation control, mining, stormwater and dam safety permitting or compliance.
  • Experience reviewing or designing permit applications or plans for evaluation or compliance.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly to clients, officials, and the public in writing or speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections for gas pipeline and other large and/or high-profile erosion control plan sites in the WSRO.
  • Provide information for media and internal information requests about these sites.
  • Inspect for all four DEMLR programs (erosion and sediment control, post-construction, construction, industrial stormwater, dams and mines).

Job Order

Hourly Rate of Pay: $32.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. Responsibilities

The priority responsibility for this position is to perform inspections for gas pipeline and other large and/or high-profile erosion control plan sites in the WSRO. This position will provide information for media and other internal information requests for these sites to interested parties. When not performing these duties, this position will perform inspections for all four DEMLR programs (erosion and sediment control, post-construction, construction, and industrial stormwater, dams and mines).

Management Preferences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laws, regulations, and/or policies related to erosion or sedimentation control, mining, stormwater and/or dam safety permitting or compliance.
  • Documented experience in reviewing or designing permit applications and/or plans for evaluation or compliance as they pertain to erosion and sedimentation control, mining, stormwater or dam safety.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating information to clients, municipal/local officials, or the public using written and/or oral communication skills.
  • Documented experience performing inspections/audits of project sites or facilities specific to erosion and sedimentation control, mining, stormwater or dam safety.
  • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, Certified Professional in Stormwater Quality, NCSU Stormwater Maintenance Certifications, Certified Erosion Sediment Stormwater Inspector or NCDOT Level 2 or higher Sedimentation Certification.
Minimum Education and Experience
