City of Chesapeake Virginia is seeking seasonal substitute Environmental Services Technicians to join Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Work is up to 25 hours per week with a TBD shift, including possible days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Starting pay ranges from $16.93 to $22.43 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Responsibilities include cleaning City buildings and outdoor spaces, stocking supplies, and supporting custodial operations to maintain safe, clean, and inviting

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in housekeeping and/or custodial services.
  • Knowledge of APPA custodial standards and operations guidelines.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service by responding to service requests.
  • Clean and maintain offices, restrooms, kitchens, cabins, outdoor facilities, and other areas.
  • Perform routine and deep cleaning tasks including vacuuming, mopping, floor care, dusting and polishing.
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Mix and use cleaning chemicals safely according to product specifications.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; maintain outdoor spaces and parking lots.
  • Lift and transport trash bags and other materials for disposal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Environmental Services Technician-Seasonal Substitute

Please note that this positional is seasonal substitute and is not to exceed 500 hours per year.

Physical exam and drug & alcohol post screenings are required.

As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre‑employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. Job Description

Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking detail‑oriented, service‑driven individuals to join our team as a Seasonal Substitute Environmental Services Technician. In this role, you’ll help create safe, clean, and inviting environments that enhance every visitor’s experience.

You will have the opportunity to showcase your custodial skills by servicing a variety of City buildings, facilities, common areas, and recreational spaces. Your work plays an important role in maintaining spaces that residents and visitors rely on every day.

The primary tasks of an Environmental Services Technician include:

  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service by responding to service requests and inquiries, supporting the City’s Customer Service Initiative.
  • Clean and maintain offices, restrooms, kitchens, cabins, outdoor facilities, and other assigned areas.
  • Perform routine and deep cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, and floor care (including stripping and waxing), as well as dusting, glass cleaning, and polishing furniture and woodwork.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning and paper product supplies; order, pick up, deliver, and restock as needed.
  • Mix and use cleaning chemicals safely according to product specifications.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas and parking lots, including debris removal.
  • Lift and transport filled trash bags and other materials for disposal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in housekeeping and/or custodial services.

Knowledge of APPA , custodial standard of operations and principle guidelines.
