Environmental Services Technician
MAIN FUNCTION:
Performs multiple cleaning tasks in accordance with Environmental Services procedures and Hospital policies. Responsibilities include collecting non-medical and medical waste, operating waste autoclave, labeling medical waste containers, collecting corrugated boxes, and maintaining floors and carpeting as needed. Responsible for linen distribution: stocking carts, delivering clean linen, collecting soiled linen, and organizing linen on shelves. Responds to house pages when assigned.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Environmental Services Director/Supervisor
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:
GENERAL FOR EVERYONE
- Able to occasionally lift up to and exceeding 50 pounds.
- Able to stand for prolonged periods.
- Flexible hours based on department needs.
- Continuous walking, grasping, reaching, and occasional bending, kneeling, and squatting.
- No recent disciplinary actions.
- Eligible applicants aged 17 and older.
LINEN SPECIFIC
- High physical activity level required.
- Lifting/carrying laundry bags up to 25 pounds.
- Repetitive lifting and hoisting laundry onto carts.
- Pushing/pulling carts weighing up to 850 pounds.
- Reaching into laundry tubs and carts to handle linen.
ATTRIBUTES:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Institutional cleaning and floor care experience
- Good customer service skills
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Scheduled weekends and holidays, every other weekend and holiday.
- Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or airborne pathogens with appropriate barriers.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
- Maintain a safe environment, report hazards.
- Use appropriate cleaning products and techniques.
- Complete assignments timely.
- Clean units, make beds, spot clean walls and carpets.
- Stock supplies, perform wet mopping, operate equipment properly.
- Handle trash per procedures, keep carts and tools clean and ready.
- Perform floor care duties: operate floor scrubber, strip, wax, burnish floors.
- Manage waste: transport to dumpsters, handle bio-hazardous waste, operate autoclave.
- Assist co-workers and report on weekly activity.
RELIEF CHARGE DUTIES:
- Lead department in supervisor’s absence, assign work, manage coverage.
- Respond to house pages on day shift.
LINEN ROOM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train new employees on linen procedures.
- Deliver, stock, and handle linen and uniforms according to procedures.
- Collect soiled linen, handle bags up to 60 pounds, transport carts exceeding 850 pounds.
