Job summary

Capital Region Airport Commission manages Richmond International Airport (RIC) and is seeking an Environmental Services Manager to lead the department, ensure cleanliness and safety across all facilities, and drive operational excellence.

The role requires extensive experience in EVS, leadership, and regulatory compliance, with budget oversight and a focus on high standards in a complex, multi-shift environment at RIC.

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years in environmental services, custodial/housekeeping or related field.
  • Seven (7) years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations governing waste management and environmental health.
  • Experience with OSHA standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to develop and motivate supervisory staff and ensure performance standards are met.
  • Excellent communication, time management and multi-tasking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage and operate all functions of the Environmental Services department.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and sanitary environment across the airport facilities.
  • Monitor budgets including payroll, supplies, contracts and equipment; drive continuous improvement.

The Commission directs the growth, operation and business activities of RIC and works tirelessly to ensure it continues to be an affordable option for local, regional, and out-of-state travelers.

Description of Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the effective direction, management, and operation of all functions of the Environmental Services department to maintain a clean, safe and sanitary environment.

Required Experience:
  • Must have at least ten (10) years of experience in environmental services, custodial/housekeeping or in a related field.
  • Must have at least seven (7) years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Qualifications:
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes pertaining to biohazardous and infectious, solid waste management and recycling.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards.
  • Takes the lead in the development and motivation of supervisory staff, ensuring the staff is properly trained at all levels and performance standards are met.
  • Ability to deliver strong operational performance by monitoring operations and completing EVS quality assessments and necessary action plans to provide optimal environmental services.
  • Monitor and maintain operating budgets such as payroll, supplies, uniforms, contracts, and equipment.
  • Ability to quickly analyze situations to determine the best course of action.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills for dealing with diverse staff, clients and customers.
  • Must be multi-task oriented, have strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and manage multi-shift or continuous operations.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform assigned work with a positive attitude, while exhibiting a professional manner.
