About the Department
TheEnvironmental Services(ES)Department plays a vital role in fulfillingMetro’smission to protect the region’s health and environment by cleaning water and recovering resources. The departmentis responsible fora wide range of scientific, technical, and regulatory activities that support clean water operations and environmental stewardship. These responsibilities include implementing Metro’s Industrial Pretreatment Program; conducting sampling for compliance monitoring, Annual Charges, process control, pilot projects, and ambient stream, lake, and groundwater conditions; and performing laboratory analyses to support these efforts. The department also provides essential analytical, regulatory, and technical support services across the agency to help ensure water is clean and safe for agriculture, aquatic life, recreation, and water supply.
