Job summary

AKRF is offering a summer internship for an Environmental Scientist/Geologist Intern based in our New York City office. You will participate in our 2027 internship program and support the Site Assessment and Remediation practice on projects of varying scale.

As an intern, you will assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II investigations, data interpretation, and report writing under supervision. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, geology or a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Initiative and ability to take on new projects and other challenges regularly.
• Dependability and an eagerness to take ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Phase II/Subsurface/Remedial Investigations including logging borings and soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling.
• Remediation oversight and community air monitoring related to brownfield redevelopment.
• Oversight of subcontractors such as drillers, excavation companies, and remedial contractors.
• Data interpretation, report preparation and writing (Work Plans, Phase II and Remedial Investigation Reports, Remedial Plans, etc.).
