Job summary

AKRF is seeking a civil engineering intern for its 2027 summer internship program in the New York City office. The role supports design of commercial, residential, mixed-use and large-scale infrastructure projects under close supervision.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an accredited STEM program or have a STEM degree, with strong written and verbal communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, initiative and dependability to take ownership of tasks.

Qualifications

• Requires an accredited STEM bachelor’s degree program or STEM graduate program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrates initiative and ability to take on new projects regularly.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and modification of engineering documents (reports, specifications, plans, schedules, cost estimates, design plans) using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other software.
• Assess site characteristics using records, maps, drawings, plans, tests, and aerial photos to inform planning and design.
• Perform site/civil design tasks including site planning, grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater management.
