Job summary

King County Water and Land Resources Division is seeking an Environment Science & Compliance Section Manager to lead environmental compliance operations within a regulated solid waste system. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in environmental compliance and landfill operations.
• Strong knowledge of federal/state environmental regulations related to landfills and air/water quality.
• Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams at executive or senior leadership level.
• Ability to translate complex data into strategic operational decisions.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for environmental stewardship, permitting, and regulatory programs for landfills and facilities.
• Lead the development of programs related to storm water, wastewater, leachate, groundwater, air quality, and monitoring systems.
• Build and develop a high performing Environmental Science and Compliance Section within SWD with clear structure and culture.
• Ensure full regulatory compliance through permitting, inspections, audits, reporting, and agency coordination.
• Act as strategic advisor, analyze environmental risks, and strengthen relationships with regulators and stakeholders.
