Job summary

The City of Anaheim is seeking an experienced Environmental Services and Safety Manager to lead the Environmental and Safety Services Division within the Public Utilities Department. Qualifications

• Six (6) years of increasingly responsible environmental management experience including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in biology, chemistry, natural resources, engineering, or a related field.
• An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Responsibilities

• Assume management responsibility for assigned services and activities of the Environmental and Safety Services Division within the Public Utilities Department including environmental compliance, groundwater protection, and water quality.
• Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
• Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommend, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels.
• Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for Environmental and Safety Services staff; assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
• Select, train, motivate, and evaluate personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
• Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the division’s annual budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.
• Ensure departmental compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations and requirements; respond to requests and inquiries by regulatory agencies; prepare documents required by the California Environmental Quality Act including initial studies, negative declarations, and environmental impact reports; develop, implement and maintain environmental and safety reporting systems.
