Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Resources Specialist 3 to support the Abandoned Well Plugging Program within the Office of Oil and Gas. You will analyze data, coordinate reviews, and prepare GIS-based analyses for state- and federally-funded projects.

The role requires coordinating with agencies, stakeholders, and landowners while ensuring compliance with Endangered Species Act reviews and cultural resource assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in environmental resources or related areas.
• Graduate coursework may substitute for experience at 15 semester hours per year.
• Promotional Only: three years as Environmental Resources Specialist 1/2 may substitute for required training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and evaluate data for compliance with federal and state laws and policies.
• Use GIS to organize geospatial data for program goals and mapping.
• Serve as liaison between OOG and public, agencies, and communities.
• Recommend mitigation approaches for adverse effects on resources.
• Respond to feedback from federal agencies regarding reviews.
• Provide digital maps and develop technical specifications for contracts.
• Submit monthly webpage updates with MEQ results and wells plugged.
