Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Oil and Gas; Abandoned Well Program, invites you to join a team focused on permanently plugging orphaned wells and protecting environmental resources.

You will analyze and coordinate reviews under Endangered Species Act and state preservation guidelines, using GIS to map wells and habitats, and communicating with agencies and communities to minimize impacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required; plus four years of professional experience in environmental resources or protection.
  • Experience with Endangered Species Act reviews and GIS is desirable.
  • Strong data analysis, GIS, and technical writing skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data for technical accuracy and legal compliance with state and federal rules.
  • Use GIS to organize geospatial data for project goals across various datasets.
  • Serve as liaison between OOG, agencies, Tribal representatives, and community groups.
  • Develop digital maps and technical specifications for contracts.
  • Prepare and update web content monthly with MEQ results and related data.
