Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Resources Specialist 3 to manage projects within the Voluntary Remediation/Brownfields and related programs. The position is exempt and eligible for telework, with two possible office locations in Charleston and Fayetteville.

The employee will oversee data review, risk assessments, and coordination among applicants, consultants, and state contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in environmental resources or related fields.
• Substitution: graduate coursework may substitute for the required experience.
• All new employees must comply with OS policy and telework conditions as described in the posting.

Responsibilities

• Review data from fieldwork and reports across air, soil, and water to ensure accurate site characterization.
• Review project applications, work plans, site assessment reports, data validation reports, risk assessments, remediation plans, and final reports for technical completeness.
• Coordinate statewide project management responsibilities including Brownfields, Superfund, or Federal facilities.
• Use a project management database to track project status, budgets, and cost recovery.
• Oversee coordination with applicants, environmental consultants, and state contractors during site work.
